Back in one of my college hot-shop classes I sculpted these life sized etched glass deer heads for a project. After the class was over I filled them with dirt and crystals and planted a few bits of moss in them. Now over 4 years later they are transformed into their own tiny ecosystems! They’re basically self contained and I literally only put a few drops of water in them every few months. The moss has completely taken over one of them and even grown into the glass coating the whole inside. The dirt I used was from the woods nearby and I guess it contained some seeds because the second one spontaneously sprouted small ferns that have been living happily with the moss since the first year. Nature is so amazing. I love looking inside them when I’m checking on them, it’s like peeping into a little world of its own.
